About OMT

The Body Heals Itself

Traditional osteopathic medicine, in the lineage of Dr. Andrew Taylor Still and Dr. William G Sutherland, aims to augment inherent healing mechanisms so the body can heal itself. It is gentle, hands on treatment and has potential to move mountains.

DOs are physicians who, along with MDs, are licensed to prescribe medication and perform surgery in all 50 states. The tenets of osteopathy include:

  • The body is a unit; the person is a unit of body, mind, and spirit.

  • The body is capable of self-regulation, self-healing, and health maintenance.

  • Structure and function are reciprocally interrelated.

  • Rational treatment is based upon an understanding of the basic principles of body unity, self-regulation, and the interrelationship of structure and function.

Form Follows Function

All osteopathic medical students have 300+ hours of training in Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) in addition to the rigorous medical school curriculum. Training includes comprehensive study of anatomy and physiology and the application of osteopathic technique and philosophy into all elements of medical practice.

Dr. Marchant spent an extra year in medical school completing a predoctoral teaching fellowship in osteopathy and anatomy under the mentorship of Dr. Deborah Heath and Dr. Victoria Troncoso. Her residency training also included emphasis on osteopathic principles and practice.

Additionally she has completed courses in traditional osteopathy with The Cranial Academy, The Osteopathic Center for Children and Biodynamic Osteopathy with Dr. James Jealous and other wonderful teachers.

"I was dealing with post concussion syndrome that worsened after giving birth, and that meant I was having headaches and neck pain daily. It was miserable. I've never experienced anything like that moment of release we both felt when Dr. Marchant found the exact spot to release all the tension. It was indescribable and my headaches were nearly completely gone. I can't recommend seeing Dr. Marchant enough."
